All Things H2O

So this is the weekend!

Lots of cool things going on.  We are welcoming Scott Harrison, founder of charity:water, to our area to speak at several events.

There is the Wine to Water event on Saturday night, where they are going to be auctioning these amazing pieces of artwork.  Even if you can’t be there, you can email a bid in.  Check them out.  They are amazing.

And many events on Sunday that will be great as well.

And don’t forget to check out the ETSY Shop.  New things have arrived.

And as my friend Cassie reminded me last night on her blog, in case you need a reminder why we are all doing this:

It was a great reminder for me.  To put faces to the numbers that we talk about.

Please join us this weekend!

Today is the day!

We’re starting out by giving our First Gift of the holiday season.

$10 is all.

$10 doesn’t seem like much to us.

But to someone in Liberia, it could mean this:

Instead of this:

Please, let your first gift of the season be the gift of life! Simply click on the link above and use the yellow donate button.

First Gift

Things are starting to roll around here for the Water 4 Christmas campaign…and it is getting exciting!

Jody has been in Liberia this past week, visiting some of the sites where wells have been dug.  It is amazing to put faces on the people that we talk about…the moms and dads, sons and daughters.  What an amazing thing to see these smiling faces getting water from a well, knowing that it won’t make them sick.

Visit Jody’s blog to see the pictures and hear about her experiences…and I’m sure there will be more to come, too.

And this Friday, November 13th, we are doing a one day “First Gift” campaign.  Please help spread the word and consider donating $10 on Friday.

$10 will help provide clean water for one African for 10 years.

Let it be your first gift of the season…and help remind us throughout the whole Christmas Season why we are doing this.

Happy Halloween!

I think Harrison “got” Halloween a little more this year.  He would say his “trick-or-treat” and “thank you”…and even got pretty good at saying “But I need two!” when they only gave him one piece of candy.

He really isn’t very shy.

Here’s some pictures of the festivities this evening.

He went as a monkey, and even has a “boo-nana” in his pocket (part of the costume).

Sometime over the course of the day he thought he was going as a monkey who pooted. He would do his monkey sound and then add a “pppfffttt” to the end of it, and say “I’m a pooting monkey!” Nice.

Pooting monkey or not, he is a cutie.

He came home and dumped all of his candy.

And wanted to eat all of it right then.

But we said no. :(

So he pouted.

So we let him have one before supper. :)

We had jack-o-lantern pizza.

It was a fun night, and really it was great weather. Especially considering we’ve gotten a lot of rain in the last couple of days. It was definitely fall-like, but cozy. :)

Happy Halloween 2009!

“Families start to break down- and marriages often break down, for that matter- when we stop enjoying each other.  There is a place for discipline, sacrifice, commitment, and perseverance; but an equally important place exists for enjoyment.  Those who never take the time to truly enjoy their family miss out on one of the most profound wonders God offers.  Such people may be all about serving, all about effort, all about sacrifice- but they are also stuck in a rut that makes them seem joyless, empty, and ultimately miserable.  This type of life does not adequately represent the character of our Creator God.  It seems far more inclined to the religion of the Pharisees than to the faith of Jesus Christ.”

Gary Thomas, Sacred Parenting

Am still getting through this book…I highly recommend it.  Many, many reminders for me as a wife and parent.

Water For Christmas Etsy Shop

The Water For Christmas Etsy Shop is now open!

This is an online shop with all homemade items.  People have been crafting and sewing and designing…  there is some cool stuff on there!  We want you to shop with a purpose for Christmas.  And what better purpose than clean water?

The items are going rather quickly, but don’t fret.  More things are being made and sent in and they will be up as soon as possible.  But if you see something that you want, I would get it now!  :)

Happy shopping!

Pumpkin Patch

We headed to the pumpkin patch this afternoon.  It was so gorgeous out, I didn’t want to miss being outside.  We tried a new place this time, and it was ok.  I was reminded later in the afternoon that our downtown area was having a Fall Festival this afternoon too, which I completely forgot about.  And I really wanted to go.  It would have been a lot of fun.  Oh well…maybe next year.

Anyway, here’s some pictures from today.

This was one big pumpkin.

And I just find this one really funny…maybe because of the way he’s holding his hand.

Playing in the corn.

And to go pick out the pumpkins, we got to ride to the field and back on a hayrack ride. Fun!

Kelly has been gone this weekend, so Harrison and I headed to a
pumpkin patch today. More pictures from that later…

After that we came home and raked and played in the leaves. And then
Harrison had to mow. It’s been a fun afternoon.
