Christmas in July??

As I looked through my mail the other day, I noticed I got a catalog from a company that I sometimes order from.

It was a Christmas Preview 2009.

Yes, a Christmas Preview in July. But I’m kind of glad that it was there. It reminded me of what happened last year with Water 4 Christmas and how so many people came together to raise tens of thousands of dollars to provide wells for people in Liberia who desperately need clean drinking water. It can be hard for me to not spend money at Christmas; I can really get sucked in to all of the fun things to buy, bake, etc. And even when I got this catalog, for a moment I thought “Oh, fun. I can just take a quick look.”

But then I was reminded of this post by my friend Jody, and how it really is about so much more.  People have continued to give through the year.  One school held a talent show and raised over $6,000 for Water 4 Christmas.  People are starting to plan for this next year…crafts, projects, fund-raisers.  I would encourage you to read the post and think about what you could be doing to help out this year.  We could blow away last year’s total.

There is also a really awesome article in the New York Times about charity:water and the founder, Scott Harrison.  You can read it here.  It really is worth the time to read it.  You get to see a little more of his heart and why he started charity:water.

And the Water For Christmas/300 Voices website is www.water4christmas.com.

So even though it may not feel like Christmas right now, it is on our minds.  And it will be here before we know it.
