Days 1 and 2
So this is how our vacation started out on Friday morning…
This is about 9:00 in the morning in Dubuque. We got to the van just as it started to POUR. We drove to a gas station to get gas and ended up watching the storm for a little bit. The dark thing right in front of the van is a big trash can blowing around.
But it cleared up very quickly, and we made a stop at the Mississippi River Museum in the Port of Dubuque. This was a really neat place, but Harrison wasn’t quite old enough I think. We thought he would like the animals, but for some reason fish this big scare him.
I don’t think I have ever seen a fish this big. It was HUGE! They also had some great displays of the history of the Mississippi River…Harrison did enjoy the hands on things. And they have a barge outside that you can go out on, which was fun. We like to go over to the lock and dam at home to see the barges go through, so he liked seeing one up close!
A big paddleboat wheel that he could turn.
The barge outside.
We then stopped for lunch…and for some reason Harrison had a little energy inside.
After that we headed on up to the Dells. Nana, Papa, Skyler and Dusty got there later in the evening. We celebrated Kelly’s birthday, and went to bed.
Today we hung out in the morning, went to lunch, and then we spent the afternoon at one of the waterparks here at the resort. I wanted to have fun with the boys, so I was in the water the whole time, and don’t have any water pictures yet. But we had a great time floating down the lazy river, going down water slides, getting water dumped on us and just having fun.
We’re all going to be going to bed early tonight. (H and Kelly have already been asleep for an hour. I may sneak outside for a few minutes to sit on the patio before I head to bed.)
Here’s some pictures from lunch.
Like father, like son.
Our nephews, Dusty and Skyler.
Giddy-up!
Only in the Dells will you see a buffalo attacking a car…
