unbelievable

I signed Harrison up for next fall’s preschool today.  WHAT?  I can’t believe he’s going to be three.  I know he will love going to preschool.  It’s just two mornings a week, and I know he will enjoy being with the other kids.  And it will be good for him to learn a few directions, because I don’t seem to be doing a very good job.  :)   Just kidding.  Kind of.  But I know he will like going.  When we went to visit a few weeks ago, he wanted to stay and do stuff with the other kids.

We’ve actually been doing some potty training, too.  It’s going pretty good.  The Lightning McQueen underwear seems to be helping the cause.  I’m wondering, though, how long this process can take?  I really don’t have any clue as to what I’m doing.  I’ve been setting the timer and having him go every 15-20 minutes, and have a little chart that we put stickers on.  He likes doing that.  And he has to wipe his bottom every time, and he thinks it’s REALLY funny when the toilet paper sticks in between his cheeks and hangs down.  Seriously.  I’m laughing right now just picturing him laughing, looking back at the toilet paper hanging down from his butt.  This is funny stuff, people.

ANYWAY…that seemed to work ok today.  We’ll keep plugging along tomorrow.  Any tips?

  1. I think most parents are clueless about potty training, at least the first time around. All kids are just so different…

Some advice that I was given was to not fool around too much with pull ups and such – wetting a pull up is not the same as wetting your real clothes. (although pull ups are better for the parents!) This person had several kids and she just said to stick them in underwear and go with it.

I think that advice did help a bit with us… It took a few weeks before he was “completely” potty trained but it was also right around his 3rd birthday and I think he was really ready. (I think that helps too!)

    Good luck!!

  2. That is hilarious. What a guy! I have thought of beginning to address that issue with Dmitry but now we just found out at the dentist that the finger sucking has to go. One major battle at a time is my motto.
