O Holy Night

In past years I remember singing this part of “O Holy Night”:

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Til He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! O, hear the angels’ voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

Today in church we also sang this verse, and I was so moved…this is what the whole rest of the year should be about, not just Christmas Day:

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.

Our church is going to do some unleashing this year, and I am so excited to be a part of it, and see what God has in store.  Pretty much putting hands and feet on verse 3.  I hope that I have already been doing some unleashing on my own, and will continue to do that, but there is so much out there that I am unaware of.  So much more I could be doing.

But I am anxious to see what God will do with a whole group of people (who desperately need grace as much as anyone else in this town, or across the globe) who are willing to take risks and serve others in the name of Jesus.  Not to just gain attendance at church.  Not just for their own glory.  But to give glory to Jesus.  And to help people because they need help.  To act.  To give.  To DO.  Even when it is not easy, but still the right thing to do.
